History

Formed in March 1826, and named for the Miami term meaning “Place of the succor fish people,” Kethtippecanoogi became Tippecanoe after it was Anglicized. The county is most famous for the Battle of Tippecanoe and for internationally known Purdue University. The Tippecanoe Courthouse, built, in 1881, is a national landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Columbian Park Zoo
